Whole-Home Generator Installation on Oahu

Standby generators sized, installed, and tested across Aiea, Honolulu, Kailua, and Kaneohe — ready before the next storm.

Generator Installation

Power Through Storm Season.

When a Kona storm or windward squall takes out a HECO line, the difference between a brief inconvenience and a multi-day mess is a properly sized generator. We install whole-home standby systems — the kind that auto-start when grid power drops and run your AC, fridge, lights, and Wi-Fi without you lifting a finger.

Sparky and Sons sizes generators based on actual load — not the catalog number. We meter your panel, talk through what you actually want running during an outage (whole house? essentials only? AC included?), and recommend the right Generac, Kohler, or Cummins unit for the job. Then we handle the gas-line coordination with your plumber, the concrete pad, the transfer switch, and the HECO permit.

For Kaneohe and Kailua especially — where storms hit hardest and HECO restoration takes longest — this is one of the highest-value upgrades you can make to a home. Most installs run 7–14 days from order to first auto-test.

Frequently Asked Questions

How big a generator do I need?
For an average 3-bedroom Oahu home with central AC, typically 18–22kW. Without AC, 14kW often works. We meter to be sure.
Does a standby generator run on propane or natural gas?
Both options exist. Most Oahu homes don’t have natural gas service, so we typically install with LP (propane) tanks. We coordinate that with your plumber.
How loud is a standby generator?
Modern units (Generac, Kohler) run around 60–65 dB at 7m — quieter than your AC condenser. We place them to minimize neighbor noise.
Can I add it later if I already have a panel?
Yes — we install an automatic transfer switch between your main panel and the new generator. Doesn’t require panel replacement in most cases.
